Having said that, one of my Elmerees just pointed out a program called Precision CW Fistcheck (http://www.qsl.net/dj7hs/download.htm). I haven't tried it yet, but he seems to like it.

73,

Dan KB6NUDan KB6NUhttp://www.kb6nu.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12559579.post-64523684364767300962014-08-27T07:14:15.662-04:002014-08-27T07:14:15.662-04:00Great piece Larry and these things are the sort I ...Great piece Larry and these things are the sort I stuff I have to remind myself over and over again in the 2.5 years I have been solely on CW. I try and do the "1 QSO per day" rule but it certainly has not worked out that way - I only have 180 or so in the log since March 2012. I don't do contests, and many other things get in the way. When my wife and daughter are away for the day or week I try and "hit it" but even that doesn't always work out right.

Jeff, I might be one of those beginners at the other end and I always try and say if its QSB or QRM, or even my daughter bursting in and grabbing me that makes it hard for me to copy. I tend to give 599 if they are strong and dead clear to me - even if I am having an "off day" copying them.

all the best, Scott 2E0OZIScotty 2E0OZInoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12559579.post-63422619292041636492014-08-22T19:35:52.202-04:002014-08-22T19:35:52.202-04:00One other note might be to use RST in a realistic ...One other note might be to use RST in a realistic manner. I don't mind it at all when everyone in a contest sends 599, I kinda expect it. But in a general QSO if you tell me I'm 599 I won't repeat things. If you tell me I'm 559 (or less) I'll send my call, name, QTH, signal report, etc. a couple times.

It can be frustrating to try and figure out if the other guy is having trouble copying me because of band condx or if he's having trouble copying code. I'm happy to slow down but like you said Larry, if the guy on the other ends calls CQ at 25wpm I'm coming back at him at 25 so buyer beware.

And another thing, hearing your call sign come back to you in Morse code is supposed to make your heart race and your hands a little clammy. It's like kissing a pretty girl and one of the reasons why we still like to do it! :-)

73 de Jeff, KE9VJeff Davis, KE9Vhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14402862349446509386noreply@blogger.com
