Christmas Eve - A Baby Changes Everything


Coming from a Polish family, our bigger celebration of Christmas comes tomorrow - on Christmas Eve.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you out there a Merry and Blessed Christmas.

May you partake of the tranquility and joy that are the hallmarks of Christmas-tide.

May your holiday be filled with friends, family, good food and all the good things of the Season.

May the peace that we Christians believe the Christ child came to bring be part of your lives, now and forever.

  4. Wishing for peace is all well and good but it's not likely to happen as long as we continue to evangelize our individual religious beliefs. Most wars at their core are fought over disparate views of the "one true god", and after centuries of conflict we grow no closer to a universal agreement. The irony is our respective convictions are largely a matter of chance, usually defined by what we happened to be taught as a child and where we happened to be born.

    At the very least, we must embrace a collective dedication to coexistence. But ultimately much simpler would be to just admit the entire notion of a god is a fabrication invented to give us hope, cope with injustice and assuage our fears. The sooner we admit heaven, hell, angles, omnipotent gods, devils and all the other postulates of religions are preposterous, the better our chances of real peace.

    First off ... it's angels. I doubt that anyone disputes the existence of angles.

    You are entitled to your opinion and beliefs as well as I. However, to blame all of societies ills on religion(s) while not acknowledging the good done in the name of religion(s) is a bit short sighted.

    Also, it is the human condition. Wars, fights and conflicts have raged for centuries and probably will in the future. To hope and pray for peace is not a bad thing. To believe that these conflicts would suddenly disappear if religions simply went away is simplistic. A good excuse maybe - but that's all it is .... an excuse.

  6. And as an afterthought ..... I think most wars are fought to either gain land, territory and wealth - not in order to impose one people's religious beliefs over another. Again, religion may be blamed; but it's usually an excuse for more basic human weaknesses.
