So hopelessly out of touch

I'll admit it, that would be me.

Personally, I don't give a rat's heinie:

1) What Chelsea Clinton's wedding cake cost.

2) That Lady GaGa is against the Arizona immigration laws (which I am sure she has not bothered to read - and furthermore, how could she read it with those idiotic masks she wears?).

3) Who LeBron James decided to play for.

4) That Steve Jobes pulled a hissy fit during the unveiling of the new Iphone.

5) That our Commander-in-Chief decided to make kissy face with "The View".

6) What Oprah has done lately.

7) That Angelina Jolie was "scarred" by her recently released movie.

8) That Heidi Montag (whoever the heck SHE is) is getting divorced and is getting more plastic surgery.

9) That Prince Charles feels that it is his "life's work" to save the world from Global Warming. Sheesh!

These are all "headlines" that I have seen the past few weeks.

Sorry CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, et al. If it has something to do with a celebrity, sports figure, movie or TV star - it bores me to tears. It would be nice to get the "news"and not opinion, editorializing, or fluff.

  2. Hi Larry,

It is good to hear that your TV programming is as bad as our Dutch programming over here. ;-)

  3. I'm against the AZ immigration law myself and I haven't appeared naked on a magazine cover nor do I wear a mask. :-) But I have read it. The law essentially and perhaps unintentionally creates a de facto requirement that all citizens must carry identification. That's unconstitutional and un-American. They're tackling a genuine problem the wrong way.

I will agree that GaGa and LeBron get way too much coverage. Furthermore, GaGa really isn't that talented and has to make up for it with shock tactics. The LeBron coverage just illustrates the goofy level to which sports has been elevated in this country.

    But I digress...

"Sorry CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, et al... It would be nice to get the "news"and not opinion, editorializing, or fluff."

You left one out, FOX News. Their the worst of all of them!!!

  6. I don't happen to agree that FOX news is the worst - and that would be "they're", BTW.

  7. I wasn't going to go there, but Fox is the worst in my opinion. They're the only network I'm aware of that has promoted a political movement and advertised/organized rallies. It is what it is.

  8. I find television very educational. Every time someone switches it on I go into another room and read a good book.

To the contrary, Fox news from my limited viewing is the only news organization that actually gives some play to both sides. Though they do have more conservative hosts on certain shows, but myself I consider that plus. All the other "mainstream" news are heavily tilted to the liberal side, with a liberal slant, and refuse to cover certain stories that don't line up with their liberal agenda. They've long ceased to be journalists in my eyes unless you consider shallow misinformation journalism. If you want some quality news and policy coverage with solutions check out and join the Heritage Foundation.

  11. So it's OK for Fox to cover stories with a conservative slant and air unique stories that line up with the conservative narrative, but when liberal outlets like MSNBC do that they cease to be journalists? And Fox isn't guilty of shallow misinformation journalism? Do you recall the whole Breitbart fiasco from just two or three weeks ago?

It's fine if Fox wants to run a conservative oriented news network, but they are a sheep in wolf's clothing for claiming to be fair and balanced. MSNBC is liberal, and Fox is conservative. They both editorialize and give opinion. It's delusional to think Fox is any better than any of the other networks listed or it is some noble alternative news outlet that provides a squeeky clean unbiased and complete story. It's simply not, and the right wing bias has been outlined by many over the years. It's OK to have a particular target audience. It's unethical and criminal to try to pass it off as something it's clearly not.

If you want to want to see how biased Fox has been check out Huffington Post, Little Green Footballs, Daily Kos, and the Daily Show. Yes, they are all liberal outlets and don't pretend to be something they're not.

This whole thread illustrates a big problem in America today. We tend to see "our team" as right, impartial, and unbiased and we lack critical thinking. Bias is everywhere because we are human. Just because it agrees with one's beliefs or politics or it's a majority or minority view doesn't magically make it unbiased and automatically correct. To not recognize this bias is hopelessly out of touch.

  12. Goddy,

Did you have to cop my title for your last line?

  13. Sorry Goody! Didn't mean to make you into Goddy, there. But really, like I stated before, it's a matter of perception. Somehow I think if I went to an average CNN or MSNBC staffer and asked them about their "neutrality", they'd swear up and down on the proverbial stack of bibles that they're "fair and balanced" and not biased either.

  14. Care in point, as heard on MSNBC:

On his MSNBC show this evening, Ed Schultz stated:

"Now I'm putting my cards on the table tonight as I do every night. The Republican party is on a mission to politically assassinate the president's agenda across the board. They want to shoot down everything."

Can someone tell me - why during the Bush administration, a favorite slogan of the left was, "Dissent is Patriotic". How come it isn't now?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I don't know because I've never asked a staffer. However, I'm talking with people here, not network employees who have to tow the company line.

I don't think any network is without sin, but there's more sin in some places than others. ABC, NBC, and CBS have for years had shades of liberal bias. CNN is probably a notch above those networks. MSNBC, as inept a network it is, is liberal to the core and with hosts like Maddow and Olberman, it's not any big secret. I'm not going to sit here and say these are all fair and balanced networks. It's an affront to logical and common sense to claim Fox is. My point is recognize the bias, liberal or conservative. We have to move beyond making our perception reality.

And, yes, I couldn't resist using your title. My apologies, though it was intended to be literary and not insulting.

  16. why during the Bush administration, a favorite slogan of the left was, "Dissent is Patriotic". How come it isn't now?

Because it's a favorite slogan of the right now?

Why were people carrying signs with Bush photoshopped as a Nazi during the last administration? Why are people carrying around signs now with Obama photoshopped as a Nazi?

Answer: we've let the radicals take over and divide this country.

  17. "Fair and balanced" is an advertising slogan - not the God's honest truth. I know that Fox news is conservative in bent; and that is why I enjoy them. No one is completely unbiased and that's just human nature.

If people can't see that; that's just ..... well, I'm not sure what that is.

  18. And once again, a post that has NOTHING to do with Amateur Radio gets the most comments. What's up with that?

I never said Fox wasn't biased, but just that they give play to both sides. Those from the left can come on and give their say as well as mentioning their positions. You can hear from both sides there compared to the others. When I see CNN in the break room at work it wreaks of propaganda more than news coverage. I don't understand how you could say Fox is the worst?

I'm still laughing at the reference to the Huffington Post by the way. I can't seem to think of a more biased site. In California we know the woman and her agenda well because she ran for governor.

For me conservative views are based on truth and why guys have 3 hour radio shows with millions of listeners going over that truth in great detail. And why Fox is beating down the other networks in ratings. People are rejecting the liberal agenda as our leaders and judges destroy our constitution and take away more and more of our freedom. People today don't want to be enslaved to a large all powerful central government against their will and robbed of their property.

Look over the debt numbers. It cost a family making $86,000 last year $407 in taxes just to pay the interest on our existing national debt which we've run up a couple more trillion now. A citizen's portion of the debt would be over $42,000. And this isn't factoring in the our commitments to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Conservatism is the only thing that will keep us from going off the cliff we're speeding towards.
